The Hidden Oracle is the first book of the series Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan. This is a Spin off series of the Heroes of Olympus. This is also where we get to see Apollo, the god of music and poetry, as a mere mortal, Lester Papadopoulos
Apollo becomes Lester
So, Zeus is mad at Apollo.
Thus, Apollo is a human now. A simple human with red blood and no powers. He’s also called Lester.
Horrible name!
The book begins with Lester falling from the sky into a dumpster. Then falling prey to some thugs and discovering that he is indeed a mere mortal.
Then he meets his partner, Meg McCaffrey.
He also finds out that he’s in Manhattan and guess who lives there?
Yes, Percy Jackson!
ANOTHER PERCY JACKSON CAMEO!
Back to the main plot, Apollo is the god of prophecy as well. And his oracles aren’t giving any prophecy for some reason. Thus now, he has to save his own oracles and activate then anew.
After meeting Percy, they begin their journey to Camp Half Blood.
The Camp Half Blood is where their real Quest begins.
A New Quest
Loved this sequel.
Nothing, I mean nothing, can ever beat the happiness I got seeing Apollo turned into a human.
With acne and flabs.
It was perfect!
The Greek gods are jerks so it was refreshing seeing one living the life of a mortal.
The fight scenes in this book seemed a lot better than the previous ones.
The plot points were also great.
Meg was an awesome character. She had her own thoughts and opinions at the age of 12, which felt nice to read.
I loved the relationship between Will Solace and Nico Di Angelo.
At the same time, seeing Apollo suffer as a mortal was the perfect entertainment.
Though, his constant whining and complaining got old after a while.
But we also got to see some nice character development.
Also, it felt oddly realistic seeing a god struggling living as a human.
Overall, this book was a nice break from the exclusive demigod stuff. We got to see a lot of things from a god’s perspective. Though it wasn’t always positive, it was entertaining.
