“Things I Wanted To Say But Never Did” is the first book of the series “Lancaster Prep” by Monica Murphy.
The book starts with a 14 years old Summer Savage sneaking drinks at a high class party where she meets a guy of her age (maybe older?)
The beginning of the book is kind of important since this is where the story of Summer and Whit began.
From the very beginning we get one thing down, Summer Savage’s mother is a homewrecker. She’s the reason Whit’s parents got divorced. Naturally, Whit hates Summer.
Shocker!
They meet again during the final year of high school. At Lancaster Academy.
Again, Big shocker!
As expected Whit hates Summer. Asks everyone to make her life miserable.
And people do everything you say when you own the institution.
Boring.
It’s Whit’s younger sister Sylvie who ends up having a bond with Summer.
And our boy Whit hates it. He hates everything!
It’s all fun and games until Whit starts getting obsessed with her.
And that’s how the story progresses. Their relationship goes on and off.
Summer has her trauma. Whit has his.
One of the main part of this story is (surprisingly!) Summer’s diary.
When this whole diary thing came up, I expected more of a reaction from Whit when he read’s about her trauma.
But there wasn’t much of a reaction. At least I didn’t get the reaction I wanted.
Being with Whit somehow creates a rift between Summer and Sylvie. Talk about being a jealous bestie.
I did understand where she was coming from, but still. Her being offended because Summer left her to spend time with Whit was a little over the top.
But that’s just my opinion.
Anyway, Whit’s mother finds the diary. Blackmail’s Summer into leaving Whit.
Fast-forward 1 and a half year is when Whit and Summer reunites again.
Yes they get their happy ending.
After another time skip, we see Whit and Summer with one kid and another on they way, along with planning their wedding.
If i have to give my opinion about this book, it was intense.
The romance was lacking but the sexual tension was peak. Which in turn made the spicy scenes pretty descriptive. Loved it.
This book can be counted as an erotica more than a romance novel. I felt like the romance could’ve used more development.
I would’ve loved seeing there relationship develop. One moment they’re not on good terms, having nothing more than a sexual relationship. The next moment they’re totally in love.
I felt like I skipped a few chapters in the middle. That jump was a little off throwing.
Other than that, I really liked this book. We see Whit maturing as a person.
Their obsession with each other is also highlighted pretty nicely.
To conclude, “Things I Wanted To Say But Never Did” was a nice read for adults, who has a better understanding of the nature of sexual attraction. This book also sets the stage for the other books in this series. It can be read as a standalone book, which makes reading it much more enticing!
