“Thousand Boy Kisses” is a work of art by Tillie Cole.
This book got the perfect name to go with it’s perfect story. And while the book got its cuteness and romance covered, it has enough sadness to soak the whole book with tears.
Poppy Litchfield
Poppy Litchfield is a young innocents girl. Her story begins when her grandmother dies and leaves her an adventure. A jar with 1000 paper hearts in it. She’s a nice girl with a nice heart. But her story needs a nice ending too, right?
Let’s just say, her story didn’t end the way anyone expected it to.
Rune Kristiansen
Rune Kristiansen is one of the hottest book character I’ve read about. He’s from Norway, a Viking. He’s a boy in love. That’s it.
That’s his main life. He’s in love with Poppy and that’s his whole life. His life revolves around fulfilling Poppy’s every wish. He lives for her and that’s what makes him such a heart touching character.
Their Story of Kisses and Goodbye
The story starts with a young Poppy and Rune who met at the age of five and became best friends. They share their first kiss at the age of 8 after Poppy’s grandmother dies. Why the sudden kiss? Poppy’s grandmother left her an adventure. Fill a jar with 1000 kisses of her life. The kisses that makes her heart flutter.
Rune promised Poppy he’ll fulfill this dream of hers. But something happens when they’re 15 years old. Rune’s family had to move back to Norway because of his dad’s job. Their perfect love suddenly came to a halt.
They promised to keep in contact but soon after Rune moved back to Norway, Poppy stopped all communication between them.
Rune felt conflicted, confused. He wanted to know what happened but couldn’t. Years passed by without any contact from Poppy.
Rune comes back to America after 2 years, at age 17. Back to the same city, same house, same school. There he sees Poppy again.
But now he’s the same Rune he used to be. He’s changed drastically. And now Poppy is avoiding him as well. To get her attention and make her jealous he pretends to be dating another girl.
This does get a reaction out of Poppy as she runs out of the party after seeing Rune kiss someone else… or at least she thinks that’s what she saw.
As kids, the promised each other that their kiss will only belong to each other and Poppy felt like she was betrayed.
Rune follows Poppy out and they get into a massive fight. This is where Poppy reveals why she stopped all contact with Rune.
And Rune felt like his whole world turned upside down.
This is where their relationship takes a turn. Rune promised to fulfill all 1000 kisses of Poppy and give her a happy goodbye.
And he keeps his promise down to the last word.
My Opinion On Those Kisses
In my Opinion, this book is gold. It’s not that much of a deep or complicated book. The book doesn’t have that many plot twists. And that’s what makes the book truly special.
I loved the simplicity of the story. The simplicity of Rune and Poppy’s love. I loved the way their story flourished.
There was this one part where after knowing the truth behind Poppy’s sudden change of behavior, Rune runs and runs until he couldn’t run anymore.
He goes back to his house and breaks everything in his room, only to fall on his knees in front of his mother and cries holding her.
It showed that even after everything, Rune is still just a 17 year old boy. His emotions are still fragile.
Where Poppy showed courage about her situation, Rune decided to show his emotions. He showed how much he loved Poppy through his emotions and actions.
Rune hated the idea of saying goodbye to Poppy, but in the end still supported her in her decision. That thing alone was enough to move my heart.
He fulfilled his promise of completing her 1000 kisses for her jars before the end. The way Rune breaks down after that was something that brought tears to my eyes. I cried reading every page after Kiss No 1000.
I love this book….. And my heart almost burst!
