The Sword of Summer is the first installment of Magnus Chase series by Rick Riordan. Here, we’ll dive into the Norse Mythology and a whole new adventure.
Magnus Chase
Magnus Chase is a 16 year old guy living on the streets.
He’s also Annabeth’s cousin. Yes. The same Annabeth!
Anyway, Magnus is dead now.
He’s Dead
Yeah. The book begins with Magnus Chase, the protagonist of the book, dying.
Well, he doesn’t die right of the bat. He’s running away from Annabeth and her father, Stumbles into his another uncle, Randolph and then he dies.
We also get to know how his mother died. And that he’s scared of wolves.
Anyway, now Magnus is in Valhalla.
Valhalla is where dead heroes go in Norse Myths and wait for the Ragnarok to begin.
It’s like an after life hotel.
Moving forward, Magnus now have this new adventure to go on.
On the way, he also figures out more about his mother’s death.
There Were Wolves
This book was a totally unknown territory for me.
The only things I know about Norse Mythology is from Thor movies. And those are very accurate either.
This book was so new, I had a hard time getting into it.
Magnus is very much like Percy, but more dead. He also has a talking Sword. Its name is Jack.
Yes. That’s the famous Sword of Summer.
This first adventure is related to a giant Wolf! So it’s a no brainer how that went.
So basically, the wolf is a son of Loki and he needs to be kept tied.
While reading the book I loved the side characters a lot. Sam, Hearth, Blitz were awesome. They supported Magnus throughout it all. I also loved how they had their own story lines and their own segments in this mission.
So overall, This book was super awesome!
Lastly, it was a new adventure with new characters and myths. I loved it.
