The ship of the dead is the third installment of the series Magnus Chase by Rick Riordan. This is the final book of this series and this is where Magnus and his friends finally defeat Loki!
Sail to their Death
In the first chapter, we get a cameo from Percy and Annabeth!
And lots of dead wolf! It’s always wolf!
Percy is here to teach Magnus about how to fall into sea and Magnus is trying not to die.
Loki is out and it’s time Magnus and his friends defeat him.
Loki is at the border of Niflheim and Jotunheim and to reach there they need to they need to travel through the sea.
Fun times!
Magnus’s dad, Frey, gifts them a bright, Neon yellow Viking ship.
Magnus hates it.
Anyway, They travel through the sea, fighting monsters and giants.
This book gives us another view of Hearthstone’s dad and his fate. It was equal part sad and deserving.
On another hand, Loki tries his best to stop Magnus go forward with his plan.
But in the end, the protagonist will always win.
Evil is Conquered
Another favorite book for me.
Firstly, I’m a huge sucker for Percy Jackson casts. So if I ever see them in any book, it immediately becomes my favorite.
Second, I loved how Samirah’s religion aspects were described in this book.
The fact that they go on this mission during Ramadan and she’s following the rules properly shows a lot into her faith.
I loved it!
Thirdly, Magnus is sassy. I love myself a sassy main character.
We also see a development between Magnus and Alex.
Shipped them! Now the ship has sailed.
And lastly, I loved how they defeated Loki. I also loved how in the end, no one had his back. Not even his own wife.
It goes to show no matter how cool you are, if you’re evil, You’ll end up alone.
Pretty stereotypical but loved it nonetheless.
This book wrapped up all the loose ends of the whole series. As the last book of this series, it had a pretty closed off ending.
I usually love all the books by Rick Riordan and this isn’t any exception.
I’m looking forward to reading more book from him.
